The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) was founded in October 1996 as Haryana Lok Dal (Rashtriya) by Choudhary Devi Lal, who served as Deputy Prime Minister of India in the V.P. Singh’s Cabinet and Chief Minister of Haryana twice.
NLD is dedicated to the all-round uplift of farmers, labourers, rural and urban areas and the downtrodden and exploited. It draws inspiration from Gandhian principles, our rich heritage and the noble traditions of our struggle for national independence. The party considers the right of peaceful and democratic dissent including Satyagrah or non-violent resistance as a fundamental right of the people.
Shri. Jannayak Chaudhary Devi lal
Chaudhary Devi Lal was born to Shugna Devi and Chaudhary Lekh Ram on September 25, 1914 in Teja Khera village of Sirsa district. Chaudhary Lekh Ram was a wealthy Jat landlord of Chautala village.
Chaudhary Devi Lal, whose original name was Devi Dayal, received education up to middle school and trained as a wrestler at an akhara in Badal village, Punjab. On Mahatma Gandhi’s call, both he and his elder brother Chaudhary Sahib Ram left their studies unfinished to take part in the freedom movement.
He was even sentenced to a year of rigorous imprisonment and sent to Hisar jail on October 8, 1930. He also took part in the movement of 1932 and was jailed in Sadar Delhi Thana. In 1938, he was selected as a delegate of the All India Congress Committee. In March 1938, his elder brother Chaudhary Sahib Ram was elected as an MLA in a by-election on an INC ticket. In January 1940, Chaudhary Sahib Ram was arrested as a satyagrahi in the presence of Chaudhary Devi Lal and over ten thousand other people. He was fined rupees 100 and sentenced to imprisonment for nine months.
A Member of Haryana Legislative Assembly for the constituency, Ellenabad, He was the leader of opposition from the party, INLD. Born in Sirsa, Abhay Chautala has been the torch bearer of sports development in Haryana. He introduced a new policy which had significantly boosted sports and games in the state. The policy provides for sports quota reservations for government jobs and educational institutions. It provides for diet allowances for sport professionals and lucrative prizes for international medal winners. Abhay Chautala has set up rural stadiums and coaching institutions in various parts of the state. As a result of his successful endeavors in the field of sports he was elected for various leading positions at reputable sport organizations.
A believer of equal stature for women, Abhay has extensively worked to empower them. He propagated the right to education for girls with the launch of ‘Shrimati Haraki Devi Memorial College for Women,’ where meritorious girls are provided fee concessions along with free lodging. He also introduced the scheme that provided free transportation facilities to girls travelling from nearby villages to educational institutions. It was his encouragement that led an activation participation of girls in sports, which was earlier dominated by men.
